Cake or death?

Hope everybody's Friday the 13th is going as happily and productively and (dare I say) luckily as mine. I've been baking up a storm, since, for once, I'm cooking for Valentine's Day (Chris being obligated to chocolate and flowers--our place is now delightfully decorated with carnations <3 <3 <3 <3 <3). It's been a day of sneakiness and goodness.

And in addition to being Valentine's, tomorrow is also our declared birthdate for our babies!

So we're having our buddies over for a little kitty party tonight (Chris is not much for sweets, so I figured we ought to spread out cat-party sweets from V.D. sweets)--I've made tiny little layer cakes, with pastry cream between the layers and buttercream frosting on the outsides. All homemade, from scratch, thank you. One of them has orange vanilla frosting and cream, with a little spiral of lemon zest, and one of them has mocha frosting with chocolate decoration.

To match, see???? :D

I know, I know. But I was already making the world's tiniest almond-pomegranate* pink layer cake for tomorrow (*the pomegranate is from a syrup, so it's just close)--what else could I do?)

Of the two, I'm gonna have to say I prefer cake.

Well, I suppose... I mean, I KNOW I love cake. I have never been dead. And then, what if I pick death and I don't like it? I can always choose to not eat the cake (yeah, not likely), but I think the death thing is one of those "no take-backs".

Unless you watch flatliners, that is... but that movie was just stupid.
